Traditional Aikido of Sonoma is pleased to introduce a new feature to our website, "Tokyo Tales", by Patricia Yarrow. Long-time dojo friend and accomplished aikido Sandan, Patricia Yarrow lives and works in Tokyo, Japan in the computer industry.

She has taken time from her busy schedule to write on her experiences in Japan, on living and working there, on training under Saito-Sensei in Iwama, and in general sharing with us her observations as an American viewing Japanese culture. For most of us, travelling to Japan to train will probably remain a dream, so we are delighted to share Patricia's experiences, however vicariously.

In Patricia's own words, here's how she generates her reports:

"The way I go at this is that I try to write about whatever has lodged in my brain within 24 hours...after minimal processing, but enough to figure an angle or a kink that brings the experience out into sharper relief than just belching verbally. I don't worry about political correctness or sensibility, because the explanation for things usually shows up last. It's amazing how many things start out with a small hook of a perception and later fit into a larger picture."
